Barry S. Jones, Professional Land Surveyor and Planner of Hopewell Township, Cumberland County, was recently elected President of the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Governor Corzine appointed him as a Member of the Board in 2007. Since his appointment he has served as a Member and Vice President. The Board, a part of the Division of Consumer Affairs, regulates the professions of engineering and land surveying to ensure the health safety and welfare of the public through the professionalism of the licensees.
Mr. Jones began his career in 1973 at Fralinger Engineering PA, located in Hopewell Township, Cumberland County and became a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in 1981. Barry is presently Director of Surveys at the Fralinger firm. He gained experience through his work at Fralinger Engineering PA and active participation in civic and professional organizations.
Albert A. Fralinger Jr., Chairman of the Board of Fralinger Engineering PA stated, “We at Fralinger Engineering are proud of the fact that Barry was elected President of the State Board. I believe Barry is the first person from this area to serve on the Board and receive the honor to be President.” He further stated that “Mr. Jones has been employed by the firm for over 35 years and during that time has demonstrated the highest standard and dedication to the profession.”
Mr. Jones was the charter secretary and member of the Cumberland Salem Chapter of the New Jersey Society of Professional Land Surveyors. Soon thereafter he became the statewide director to that group and became President in 2000. He has twice been awarded Presidential Citations for Outstanding Contributions to the profession and was named a fellow member.
One of the few members of the State Board from the southern New Jersey region, Mr. Jones brings the knowledge gained through his many years of experience to the Board. He says, “It is an honor to be named president and I look forward to serving the State Board in my new capacity.”
The Board is responsible for review and approval of every application for licensure as a professional engineer or professional land surveyor and overseeing each examination administered. The Board also reviews consumer complaints against licensees.
